However, both statistical definitions of size below or above a certain threshold related reference population, rather than referring an condition. Fetuses can be constitutionally small large thus healthy, whereas fetuses seemingly normal restricted overgrown. Human placental growth hormone in normal and abnormal fetal growth
Human placental growth hormone (PGH), encoded by the growth hormone (GH) variant gene on chromosome 17, is expressed in the syncytiotrophoblast and extravillous cytotrophoblast layers of the human placenta. Its maternal serum levels increase throughout pregnancy, and gradually replaces the pulsatile secreted pituitary GH. PGH is also detectable in cord blood and in the amniotic fluid. This plac...

BACKGROUND Micrognathia is a facial malformation characterized by mandibular hypoplasia and a small, receding chin that fails to maintain the tongue in a forward position. We previously reported a system of prenatal screening that we developed to identify fetuses with compromised central nervous system function by observing fetal behavior. In this paper we report the case of a preterm infant wi...

متن کاملThe Impact of Abnormal Glucose Tolerance and Obesity on Fetal Growth
OBJECTIVE Factors linked with insulin resistance were examined for their association with large-for-gestational-age (LGA) infant birth weight and gestational diabetes. STUDY DESIGN Data came from a longitudinal cohort study of 2,305 subjects without overt diabetes, analyzed using multinomial logistic and linear regression. RESULTS High maternal BMI (OR = 1.53 (1.11, 2.12)), height (1.98 (1....
